Having specialised in information security and computing while at Leeds Metropolitan University in Great Britain, where he achieved a BSc in Computer Science, SpyHat has gained a series of professional qualifications during his career path such as Certified NGSEC Information Security Consultant and he is working towards the highly-prized CISSP, CISA and CISM qualifications.
How did you start your career in Security?
I started in college and the administrator in charge of the computer network had lots of problems with students who were trying to gain administrator privileges. We used to do this and then inform the administrator of what was happening! Then Sabri Al Azazi interviewed me when I applied for the job at Datafort and he asked me about what I knew about security. I then knew about Script kiddies, people who download programs to hack others, and wanted to learn more. So, he took me under his wing and I've learned a lot of things since then!
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
I don't know – but I'd have to say that I have been responsible for publishing hack.ae – the region's very first web-hacking tournament which is designed to help people look at security and how to patch vulnerabilities. It started in 2004 and happens now every year, so every year I have to create a new contest! The main objective is to promote security awareness and the damage caused by hacking. It shows how to overcome security threats.
What do you enjoy about your work?
I really enjoy the projects I work on as well working with my team and discussing security. I come into the office in the morning and see the computing and security guys discussing the latest topics so I get to learn from them and they also learn from me!
OK, imagine you've been given the rest of the year off – what would you do with your time?
I'd go to the Amazon because I want to see what's there and to discover the hidden secrets of the jungle. It would be great to see it and then learn about all that is still unknown there.
